2022 Rafter Award Recepients

2022 Rafter Award Recipients

Each year Brigade gives a "Rafter Award" to a 14U Boy and 8th grade Girl for outstanding Sportsmanship, Citizenship and Leadership.

Bob Rafter was a local presence in the community.  Bob was the father of 5 children and he passed away in his prime at age of 42.  He was a Navy Vet (E-4) as well as secret service man who, at that time, protected the President.  He was probably the most loyal and loudest fan on the sidelines. He would even be spotted on the sidelines cheering on players that he never met before.  He was full of encouragement for each player on the team and he was eager to learn the rules of the game (so he could argue an official’s call).

Bob Rafter was a dedicated father, husband and friend.  His passing left a huge hole not only in our community but in the hearts of those who knew him and the lacrosse community.

Bob was a great person who gave a lot back to the community and his death at such a young age was just so sad. Thus, when MBYL was started, we thought it might be nice to honor Bob's memory, around the ideals of service, dedication, and sportsmanship.

This award is not necessarily intended to be an "MVP Award", but is defined by a player who:

  • Has regular attendance for both practices and game
  • Always ready to give 100%
  • Has a positive attitude
  • Leadership qualities
  • Respectful to their coaches, teammates, opponents and officials
  • A model student and role model within our community

Congratulations to our 2022 Rafter Award recipients Brianna Nengel and Wyatt Holden.
